Schools & education

Fencing and gates for schools

We help schools improve their boundaries and manage access, working with headteachers, school business managers, estates teams and local authorities across Essex, London, Hertfordshire, Kent and the South East.

School safeguarding fencing & controlled access

Secure boundaries, managed access and responsible working on site

Clearly defined, well-maintained boundaries and properly controlled entrances support a school’s wider safeguarding arrangements. Fencing is one part of those arrangements, alongside the school’s own policies, supervision and procedures, and it is not a guarantee of security or compliance on its own.

We survey what is there, talk through your concerns and recommend practical options. Just as importantly, we plan how our team will work on your site, around your pupils, staff and daily routine.

DBS-checked installersEveryone we send to a school site, including subcontractors and temporary staff, is DBS checked.

Secure school boundaries

A clear, continuous boundary makes it easier for a school to know who is on site. We look at the whole perimeter and recommend where work is needed.

  • Replacing damaged, deteriorating or unsuitable fencing
  • Closing gaps and addressing vulnerable boundary sections
  • Reviewing fence heights and designs against your site’s requirements
  • Mesh fencing, vertical bar railings and other suitable systems
  • Considering climbing opportunities, adjoining structures and changes in ground level
  • Balancing security with appearance, visibility and the surrounding area

Controlled pedestrian & vehicle access

How people and vehicles enter the grounds matters as much as the fence line. We review your entrances and recommend arrangements to suit them.

  • Separate pedestrian and vehicle entrances where appropriate
  • Matching pedestrian and vehicle gates
  • Gate locks, controlled entry, intercoms and access control
  • Gate closers and suitable hardware
  • Visitor entrances and clearly defined access routes
  • Reviewing existing gates and replacing worn or unsuitable components

Gate arrangements are agreed with the school, taking account of daily operations, accessibility and emergency escape requirements. No single gate arrangement suits every school. Access control is installed by our own team, working with specialist affiliated installers where a project needs them.

Privacy & visibility

Some schools want to reduce views into playgrounds or other sensitive areas. Privacy screening can help in the right places.

  • Screening considered alongside staff supervision and sightlines
  • Checking the existing fencing and posts are suitable to carry screening
  • Targeted screening where it is needed, rather than every boundary

The right solution depends on the location and on what the school needs.

Separating different areas

Fencing and gates can define how each part of the site is used, and who uses it.

  • Nursery and early-years outdoor spaces
  • Playgrounds and sports areas
  • Staff-only and service areas
  • Car parks and delivery areas
  • Routes used by pupils, staff and visitors

We select layouts and hardware to suit the age of the pupils and how each area is used.

Working on a school site

DBS-checked installers and school site procedures

Everyone we send to a school site, including subcontractors and temporary staff, is DBS checked. A DBS check is one part of working responsibly in a school; it does not give anyone unsupervised access to children. Before work starts, we agree site arrangements with the school, including:

  • Signing in and out
  • Following the school’s visitor and contractor procedures
  • Wearing identification where required
  • Following the school’s safeguarding instructions
  • Working within agreed areas and access routes
  • Following the school’s arrangements for any contact with pupils

Planning the works

Planning work around school operations

We discuss the programme and working arrangements with the school before installation, and develop them for each project. Depending on the site, this can include:

  • Holiday or out-of-hours working, where agreed
  • Phasing works so agreed boundary protection is maintained
  • Temporary fencing and controlled work areas where required
  • Planning deliveries and vehicle movements
  • Keeping tools, materials and excavations separated from pupils
  • Maintaining agreed access and emergency routes
  • Keeping the school informed as work progresses

We plan to keep disruption to a minimum, and agree dates subject to availability.
